Scriptwriting

I have written across a wide variety of mediums - sitcoms, sketches, plays, narrative prose and short films. I've written for screen, stage and audio. I've written for kids, families and adult audiences.

I guess I'm saying I've written a lot

Below, please find some samples of my scriptwriting, along with a bit more information about each project!

Hopeless

A bittersweet sitcom for fans of MumColin From Accounts and Fleabag.

When wedding celebrant Dáithí’s marriage unexpectedly comes to an end, he finds himself completely out of love with love.

Can he salvage his marriage, or is this once hopeless romantic condemned to be just … hopeless?

Bells End

The Bell Inn – a Bumblehampton institution – has new owners. Andrew and Grainne are buzzing to make a fresh start and turn The Bell into the cocktail bar of their dreams. First, though, they need is a good night’s sleep ...

The problem is … the church behind their new home rings its bloody bells every fifteen minutes, all day and all night. Their baby can’t sleep, and neither can they.

Surely, though, reason will prevail, and their new neighbours will understand that ringing bells overnight is insane?! Or might it be that ending a 174-year bell-ringing tradition isn’t as easy as you’d think?

Bells End is an audio comedy based on multiple true stories about this subject matter! Which is more important - maintaining tradition or moving with the times and exercising common sense?!

All Hell

In the beautiful coastal parish of Portshannon, Father Dermot Canning is the next thing to Godliness. Everything is perfect … until his reprobate brother, Eoghan, arrives unexpectedly. Just how will Eoghan’s propensity for chaos affect Dermot, and his flock?

Lock up your daughters (and your valuables). Eoghan is here. All hell is about to break loose. God help us all.

All Hell is a comedy drama written for TV, which is full of complex relationships and ridiculous parishioners, for fans of We May Regret This and Flowers.

Sketch comedy

I have written a number of short sketches, many of which are inspired by my love of the arts. I aim to write smart (yet very silly) sketches with big characters and lots of laughs.

Watch Over Him

Watch Over Him is a short film about death, family politics and watches.

Seamus O’Kane has died. Well, no great loss there.

At the wake, his son, Liam, is focused on only one thing – the watch on his father's wrist. It was promised to him, and Liam is going to whatever he has to do to ensure that the precious heirloom doesn’t end up in the ground.

Liam’s sister, Erin, is keen to ensure that there is no drama at the wake. So, she’s not entirely thrilled with the idea of her brother removing a watch from the wrist of the deceased …

Can Liam snatch the watch from under the nose of horrible Aunt Maggie before it's too late?

A(nother) Night in November

A comedy drama, written for stage, and developed with Liverpool's Royal Court as part of their Stage Write Playwright Development Programme.

On the night of Ireland's hugely controversial World Cup play-off match against France in Paris, regular punter, Sean 'Smiler' Taggart, arrives at the pub having tried and failed to end his life. His friends, desperate to give him a reason to live, tell him that Ireland did, in fact, qualify for the World Cup in South Africa.

How can the group keep up this totally unsustainable lie, and what other secrets may come out over the course of the evening?

A(nother) Night in November is a play about male friendships, mental health and football.
